Ampitheatre Poltekkes Kemenkes Denpasar, Tuesday, December 10, 2024, witnessed the start of midwifery simulation preparations involving a collaboration between the nursing and midwifery students from Poltekkes Kemenkes Denpasar and students from the University Catholique de Lille, France. This activity aims to enhance students’ skills in providing optimal midwifery services, particularly in the management of postpartum hemorrhage cases.
According to the facilitators of this event, Gusti Ayu Eka Utarini, SST, M.Kes, and Ni Made Dwi Purnamayanti, S.Si.T, M.Keb, this simulation is an important part of the curriculum supporting the internship program for midwifery students. “This simulation is part of the teaching program we conduct together with international students. They will learn how to handle postpartum hemorrhage from both countries. They can compare and contrast the management of the same case in both countries. This will improve critical thinking among students in handling midwifery cases,” said Eka Utarini.
Through this program, students will not only learn theory but also gain hands-on experience in handling real-life cases, particularly in emergency conditions like postpartum hemorrhage, which can occur after childbirth. The critical thinking skills they develop during this simulation are expected to strengthen their ability to make swift and accurate decisions when faced with similar situations in the field.
Differences in managing postpartum hemorrhage between Indonesia and France will also be a topic of discussion. Dwi Purnamayanti added, “Differences in management may arise due to variations in the countries’ healthcare systems and policies. For example, there might be differences in access to medical facilities or the use of certain medications.” This discussion will provide students with additional insights into how each country’s healthcare system addresses the same issue with approaches tailored to local conditions.
This simulation also aims to train students in collaborating with other healthcare professionals, which is a key component of Interprofessional Collaboration (INC). Effective teamwork is essential in handling critical cases like postpartum hemorrhage. Collaborative work will have a positive impact on patients and improve the overall quality of care provided.
This activity is expected to be an important step in introducing Indonesian midwifery students to international standards of midwifery care. Through the internship program, they will not only gain new knowledge but also expand their networks and enrich their practical experience in maternal and child health.
With this midwifery simulation, students are expected to approach field challenges with more confidence and be prepared to face various situations that may arise during childbirth. This international collaboration also presents an opportunity for Poltekkes Kemenkes Denpasar to enhance the quality of midwifery education and strengthen its ties with leading educational institutions abroad.
